Candlemas 2022

Good morning and a warm welcome to our service of Holy Communion for Sunday 30 January, during which we remember the Presentation of Christ in the Temple. Rev Sue presides and Rev Deborah will preach. We begin with the hymn “Christ be our Light”:

  • Malachi 3.1-5
  • Luke 2.22-40

Rev Deborah’s sermon was a reading of the poem “An Old Man Waiting” (Trevor Dennis), which was accompanied by Carol and Tom playing “Ashokan Farewell” (Jay Ungar):

The anthem during distribution of communion is “Nunc Dimittis” (G Burgon):

After this, the congregation sang a new hymn “Maranatha, Come Lord, Come”, written by members of our congregation at the last session of this year’s Advent and Epiphany course:

We finished with the hymn “Shine Jesus Shine”:
