September’s letter from the clergy to the parish comes from the keyboard of Rev Christine.
What a beautiful summer we have had this year! I know, however, that many people have found the heat and humidity difficult to cope with. The lack of rainfall has also caused problems for farmers and those growing fruit and vegetables, and it has certainly felt like an unusually dry summer.
As we step into September, there is often a sense of new beginnings—a chance to pause, take stock and look ahead to the events and opportunities that lie before us. We look forward especially to the Rededication Anniversary Service at St. Margaret’s on 12th September, followed by our Songs of Celebration on 4th October. In between, we will observe Creationtide and Harvest, giving us opportunities to reflect on God’s wonderful creation and to give thanks for all that sustains us.
The beautiful long days of summer will gradually begin to shorten, holidays will come to an end, and parents may breathe a sigh of relief as the new school year begins!
Within our church community, St. Margaret’s Voices will return for rehearsals, and we look forward to hearing them once again during our services. Rhyme Time and Messy Church will also restart, and we look forward to welcoming back familiar faces and meeting new families.
The Bible reminds us:
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
These words can be a great comfort. We do not have to have everything worked out, nor do we need to know exactly what lies ahead. We can place our trust in God, knowing that he walks with us through every season of our lives.
The changing seasons remind us that life itself is full of transitions. Some changes are exciting and welcome, while others can bring uncertainty or even sadness. Yet, through all these changes, one thing remains constant: God’s love and faithfulness.
We have recently had to say goodbye to Rev Helen as she moves on to her first incumbency in High Crompton and Thornham. We are delighted for her as she begins this new chapter, while also being sad to see her leave. We pray that God will bless her ministry and guide her as she begins this new journey.
September is also a good time to think about our life together as a parish. As familiar activities restart and new ideas are encouraged, we can look forward to renewed fellowship, worship and opportunities to serve our community.
There is always a place for everyone—whether through attending worship, helping at parish events, offering a listening ear to someone who is lonely, or simply being willing to welcome someone new. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the greatest difference. A smile, a cup of tea, a telephone call or a few moments spent listening can remind someone that they are valued and not alone. This is especially important for those who are housebound or living with long-term illness.
As we begin this new season, may we pray for our parish, our families and our wider community. May we have the courage to embrace new opportunities, the patience to face difficulties, and the wisdom to recognise God’s presence in the ordinary moments of each day.
May September be a month of fresh hope, renewed faith and new beginnings for us all.
