Being pure in heart

Welcome to our service of Holy Communion for Sunday 29 August, the 13th after Trinity. This morning we consider what Jesus had to say about being inwardly and outwardly pure – in our words and actions. Rev Sue presides and ALM Carol O preaches.

We begin with the hymn “I Cannot Tell”, sung for us here by Maureen and accompanied by Tom:

The service was recorded live on our Facebook page: https://fb.watch/7H8wQuy4OO/

ALM Carol’s reflection is available to you here.

The anthem during the distribution of communion was “Create in me a Clean Heart, O God”, sung by Carol and Tom:

The text is:

Create in me a clean heart, O God; renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy presence, O Lord; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me, the joy of Thy salvation and uphold me with Thy willing spirit, O God.

Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy presence, O Lord; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

We conclude with the hymn “Christ be our Light”:
