God and Creation

Welcome to our service of Holy Communion for the first Sunday after Trinity. Rev Deborah presides and Rev Sue preaches on Genesis 3.8-15 and Mark 3.20-35.

We begin with the hymn “All my hope on God is founded”:

The service was recorded live here: https://fb.watch/5Yos12Xv7K/

Rev Sue’s sermon is here and on Spotify.

We conclude with the hymn “Guide me O thou great Redeemer”.

During the distribution of communion our singing group, Maggie’s Music Makers, sang for us a version of the Gloria set to the tune “The Ash Grove”:

Here is the text, taken from our ‘orange hymn book’, Hymns Old and New:

Sing glory to God in the height of the heavens,

Salvation and peace to his people on earth;

Our king and our Saviour, our God and our Father,

We worship and praise you and sing of your worth.

Creation unites in the power of the Spirit,

In praise of the Father, through Jesus the Son.

So complex, so simple, so clear, so mysterious,

Our God ever Three, yet eternally One.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,

Lod God, Lamb of God, by the nations adored,

Your blood takes away all the sin of creation:

Have mercy upon us, for whom it was poured.

For you are our Saviour, our only Redeemer,

Who came all our gladness and sorrows to share:

You sit at the side, the right hand of the Father,

Have mercy upon us, and answer our prayer.

For you, only you, we acknowledge as holy,

We name you alone as our Saviour and Lord;

You only, O Christ, with the Spirit exalted,

Are one with the Father, for ever adored.

Creation unites in the power of the Spirit,

In praise of the Father, through Jesus the Son.

So complex, so simple, so clear, so mysterious,

Our God ever Three, yet eternally One.
