This article was originally written for the March 2019 issues of our parish magazine. Here it is for you again:
For our parish, 2019 is the Year of Creation. You will experience this theme throughout the year, following the ‘official’ launch at an all-age service on Sunday 10 March. During that service the youngest members of our Church Family will play a prominent part, contributing prayers, reporting on their recent activities, and of course, music. It is very unusual for me to ‘give away’ the text of a song before it is heard in church, but our Sunday School Singers have devoted much time and effort to learning this:
-
- 1 From the crocodiles and kangaroos
- To the birds and bumblebees,
- From the elephants and polar bears
- To the spider and the flea.
- It’s amazing, the wonder of creation
- And we all just want to say…
- CHORUS Thank you for the morning light,
- Thank you for the moonlit night,
- Thank you for the sunshine and the rain.
- Thank you for the hope you bring,
- Thank you God for everything,
- It’s a beautiful world you made.
- 2 From the snow upon the mountaintops
- To the fruit upon the trees,
- From the jungle to the desert sand
- To the fish beneath the sea.
- It’s amazing, the wonder of creation
- And we’ve all a part to play.
- CHORUS
- It’s amazing, the wonder of creation
- And we’ve all a part to play.
- LAST CHORUS
- Thank you for the morning light,
- Thank you for the moonlit night,
- Thank you for the sunshine and the rain.
- Thank you for the hope you bring,
- Thank you God for everything,
- It’s a beautiful world,
- A beautiful world,
- It’s a beautiful world you made.
I have written previously that not all of our Sunday School children are old enough to be able to read fluently. All the more impressive then that not only have they learned the words and music, but they have also learned an adapted version of sign language so that those with hearing difficulties are fully included.
The message of this song is loud and clear: if you wake up in the morning, give thanks. If the sun is shining, give thanks. If it is raining or snowing, give thanks.
We are stewards of a truly beautiful world. It’s a huge responsibility. #DoYourBit
