St George’s Report to the APCM

Church Building: The beginning of the year started very well, the building was fine. All was going well, then the boilers were serviced and we had heavy rain, water got into the church boiler and so damaged the boiler. The heaters came out and in June a faculty was applied for, this if given, would allow us to have a new boiler fitted. The costs were horrendous for the repairs, and we prayed for the faculty. It was a continual battle to try and keep the church warm. Christmas came and went, still using heaters in church and struggling with the boiler which had seen better days. The only thing needed to be done was clean the gutters on the church. Otherwise, the church is sound. Rev Christine took over the responsibility of St George’s; we wish her well in her future path.

Lady Wilton Hall: We held St. George’s festival and thanks to Margaret and her family and everybody who helped on this special day. We raised £1300. We had the roof repaired and later in the year we managed to have new windows installed. People have been very generous.

Later in the year Rev Steve contacted the Simister Village Community Association to join us in the hall. They are in the process of decorating the hall, adding new blinds, Wi-Fi and lots of enthusiasm.

Carol and I have found this year very hard and difficult, due to sickness and family needs, we have both retired but are still doing the job. Many of the congregation are unable to help us now so hopefully young blood will have more ideas but channelled in the right direction. Whoever takes on the roles we will help them to take over

I want to give a big thank you to Carol and Mike Knaggs, both church families, Laurel Avery, David McConville, Janet Dalton, Anne Orrell, Danni Zenko, Carol Porter, Barbara Taylor and Joan Evans, people in our village, and all those who donated and supported us in keeping St George’s and Lady Wilton Hall open.  We would not survive without your help.

Keep safe and well everyone in this difficult time. Joan Knott and Carol Knaggs
