PCC Secretary’s Report to the APCM

During 2025 the PCC held 8 meetings which were very well attended. We welcomed June Thompson and Norman Erskine has new members in June. It was with great sadness that we lost such a devoted PCC member of many years Barbara Ashurst early in the year. She had been a faithful servant of both St George’s and St Margaret’s for many years and she is sadly missed.

The PCC had quite a few difficult problems to face in 2025, one being that the boilers at both churches had started to breakdown on many occasions. It was at the July meeting, after advice had been taken from heating consultants that resolutions were passed for both churches that new boilers should be purchased. Unfortunately, as St George’s was not a like for like replacement we had to apply for a faculty. This caused great trouble in keeping the boilers on during the winter months while we awaited the results of the faculty.

The PCC also approved the reauthorisation of Andrew Ginn as a Pastoral ALM. We thank Andrew for his work in this ministry. During the summer months we had some branches falling off the trees in the graveyard bordering the Church Hall. The PCC gave permission for a tree surgeon to inspect the trees. Two trees were found to have ash back and were dangerous, these were removed and some saplings were also dealt with. Further work will be needed when funds have been raised.  The new leader of the Lady Wilton Hall committee Joe Leahy was invited to the September PCC meeting, where he gave an outline of what the committee hoped to achieve, including painting the hall and applying for grants towards the cost of the work. Sadly, we still do not have any Wardens, and we thank Laurel and David for their continued support in obtaining grants, quotes etc, plus all work they do on a Sunday. They both do a lot of work behind the scenes for which we are grateful. On a personal level I would like to thank Rev. Helen for all her help with the minutes over the last 12 months.  Joan Evans
