Way back in July 2021 Rev Deborah contacted me to sound me out about the possibility of having a concert towards the end of April 2022. I said “yes”, of course. It turned out she had a “significant” birthday then, and as she has a passion for travelling the globe, wanted to celebrate with an evening of music from all around the world, with a pie & peas supper thrown in for good measure.
I’m so glad that we were able to do this for her. The evening was an enormous success – well attended and over £1500 raised for Deborah’s chosen charities: Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.
I am indebted to Joan E and her team of caterers who planned, organised, served and washed up the pie & peas supper with a choice of three – yes, 3! – gateaux for dessert; to the team who organised and served refreshments during the interval; to the official photographer; to all who helped with setting up the church for the concert and re-setting it ready for morning worship afterwards; to our singing group, Maggie’s Music Makers, who put in so many hours of personal practise time in learning the huge range of repertoire; and to our organist Tom, without who’s support this concert really could not have happened.
Sadly, Rev Deborah was unable to join us on the evening, but she was with us virtually via a Zoom link.
