Remembrance Day was marked with a very moving service at 9.45 on Sunday 11 November 2018.
In the weeks leading up to the centenary of the end of the Great War, there were visits to see the poppies at the Imperial War Museum North, opportunities for the entire church family to contribute to a poppy exhibition organised by the Society of All Artists, and Sunday School also learned about the fallen of our parish.
The Rev Deborah’s address was in two parts. Firstly, Sunday School shared their learning about the Fallen of our parish:
The second part was a Reflection from the Front:
The Vicar’s address was followed by our Sunday School Singers and Maggie’s Music Makers singing “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Give Us Peace) together:
During communion, we heard “I Believe”. The text of this song was found on the wall of a WWII concentration camp. It was set to music by Stuart Overington in 2018, and performed here by Carol and Tom.
Our Act of Remembrance was at the end of the service, with the silence at 11.00am.
