In the blazing heat and sunshine of July 2018 I was treated to a short stay in Paris. When asked what I particularly wanted to visit whilst there, I replied without hesitation, Sacré-Cœur
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is situated at the top of a big hill in the Monmatre district. There are many, many steps to climb up the steep streets, but it is well worth the effort. There is a good deal of interesting information about Sacré-Cœur on it’s official website http://www.sacre-coeur-montmartre.com/english/ but suffice to say that I felt immediately at home there, welcomed by the wide embrace of Jesus shown opposite the main west doors.
We climbed to the top of the dome (of course) and admired the panoramic views of Paris, laid out like a map below us. We also returned later in the evening to see the church lit up for the night.
