Church Mice

Last September Peter and I had a holiday in Scotland. We stayed in Inverness. Whilst there we visited the Cathedral. It will come to you as no surprise that it’s not the architecture and sculptures that interest me but the textiles, the banners, kneelers etc.

As we walked round I saw several knitted Church mice:

*A Bishop on the Bishop’s throne

*A chorister in the choir stalls

*A bell ringer

*A family by the font and many more

I was speaking with one of the welcomers who actually had a part in   making them. They were to illustrate what various pieces of furniture or area were for. They also had a Mouse trail for the children. I very much liked this and asked if it would be OK if I copied the idea.  She happily agreed.

I mulled the idea over for a bit. Deciding that I didn’t want to highlight the furniture  but instead, the people who make up our Church and what they do to make it what it is. I originally planned 8 mice, but it developed into 12.

I deliberately haven’t included those with very visible roles, but concentrated on those in the background, without whom we would not be the Church we are.
